Private, in-person dog training across the Triangle, built around your dog, your goals, and your everyday life. From leash pulling and jumping to reactivity and recall, we help you and your dog finally understand each other.
If any of this hits close to home, you're in the right place:
Pulling like a freight train on the leash
Barking at every dog, person, or delivery truck
Jumping on guests the second they walk in
A “come” that works… only when nothing more interesting is around
Guarding food, toys, or the couch
Anxiety or chaos when left alone
You're not alone, and none of this is a lost cause. Most dogs can make real, lasting progress with the right approach.
Training often covers the everyday challenges below. We'll match the plan to what you actually need.
Sessions are private and one-on-one: just you, your dog, and your trainer. Want a single session for a quick tune-up, or a package for a bigger behavior challenge? We'll match the plan to what you actually need.
Every dog, owner, and home is different, so your training is too. We start with your specific goals and challenges, not a script.
Anyone can teach a dog to sit. Our job is to make sure you understand what you're doing and why, so progress keeps going long after our sessions wrap up.
We don't train for the training session. We train for your life. The walks, the front door, the dog park, the dinner guests. The stuff that actually matters.
It started with a Golden Retriever and a hike about 20 years ago. No collar, no owner in sight, just a dog who decided to follow me home. I spent weeks calling shelters and checking for a microchip, but no one came forward. I haven't been without a dog since.
That chance meeting turned into two decades of studying dog behavior and training through books, seminars, workshops, and mentorship with experienced trainers, plus a lot of hands-on work with my own dogs, friends' dogs, and dogs around the community.
I founded Triangle Dog Trainer after moving to the Triangle, and the name says it all: my passion for training, and the community I'm proud to call home. I take training seriously, but I don't take myself too seriously. Expect honest answers, clear communication, and a trainer who genuinely cares about getting you and your dog to a better place.
Tom has worked with several of my dogs, helping with anxiety, dominance, destructive behaviors, and most recently leash reactivity. What I love most is his clear, personable communication, his practical suggestions, and the time he takes to tune in to each individual dog. Tom's love for dogs is immediately evident, and his natural ability to understand them will put you and your dog at ease.
Triangle Dog Trainer is an amazing resource. I worked with Tom because my dog literally ate my kitchen floor and still sometimes went inside, even though he was housebroken. Tom helped me understand that my dog needed both rules and physical stimulation. After working with TDT, my dog stopped going in the house, and my new kitchen floor is completely uneaten!
Here's the honest truth: there's no magic fix. The dogs who make the most progress have owners who stay consistent and practice between sessions. That's the whole point of teaching you alongside your dog, so the wins stick.
Put in the reps, and the payoff is a calmer, more confident dog and a home that's a whole lot easier to live in. We'll give you the knowledge, the plan, and the support. You bring the follow-through, and we'll get there together.

Sessions happen wherever your dog needs them most: your home, a public setting, or the real-world spots where the challenges actually pop up.
Tell us a little about your dog and what's going on. We'll take it from there.
